Typhoon Warning
- If you're eating dinner at a fancy restaurant, and the waiter brings you a plate full of bugs, do you:
A. Jump up and scream.
B. Call the Health Department
C. Eat them.
-
- If the restaurant is called Typhoon, in Santa Monica, California, then the correct answer is "Eat them"! The restaurant actually features bugs on the menu, and proudly serves them to diners.
-
- The two bug-infested entrees are:
-
- "Stir-fried Crickets," which are sautéed in olive oil and garlic, and "Giant Wild Mountain Ants." The chef is planning to add termites and water bugs to the menu as well.
-
- Sometimes, says the chef, people do jump out of their chairs when the dishes arrive at their tables. But kids seem love them and have no problem eating bugs--and eventually their parents will give in and start eating the bugs, too.
